Spam measures

Well, the IP blocks seem to be effective so far. I’m not getting spam but people are still joining my FLs so that’s good.
I’ve been researching just what sorts of other actions I can take because I run another web site (since I know spammers hit this blog, I’m not posting a URL) where I currently have comments off unless you register. I’ve thought that might be a bit harsh since I actually do have anti-spam measures in place, but deleting things that do get through is just too darn tedious.
I looked into reporting IPs and sites that came up a lot to other services so that at least I could put the stuff I got to some sort of use, and so far, URIBL has been good enough to accept the URLs that aren’t already on their blacklists. Yeah, I know it’s weird that I’m actually going through this stuff and searching for active URLs, but some of the IPs that hit me hit a lot of other web sites. In addition, some sites were spamvertised via multiple IPs. Others were even submitted to my fanlistings!
I’ve also got links to Project Honeypot scattered throughout my FLs to help catch e-mail harvesters. Thanks to a shiny PHP script, the links are not only invisible to normal viewers, but the link text is randomly generated. Yay!
So, done yammering now. Yes.

I tried to ban ips that were bombarding my fanlistings with spam and wound up blocking everyone. Um, ooops. Anyway, that’s taken care of now. If you got that message, please try again and I’ll add you this time.
Unless you’re a spammer. :P

Cussing at me and insulting me won’t make me update faster. I get behind on updating because I still get a number of fake web sites listed despite my note saying only to enter URLs of sites you own. So, now not only do I have to go back and fix those, but I have to delete all your spammy comments. To whoever did that, thanks a lot.

IN THE URL FIELD OF THE JOIN FORM, DO NOT ENTER ANYTHING IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A WEB SITE. I know for a fact nobody joining my fanlisting owns google.com, teentitans.com, cartoonnetwork.com, yahoo.com, aol.com, and so on and so forth.
